Introduction:

Chulu West Peak Climb an adventure of great thrill where memory of this great journey will be your memorable lifetime experience standing above 6,419 meter and 21,182 ft high on top Chulu West Peak.

Chulu West Peak extends towards western direction with its other Chulu’s peaks which is Chulu East-Chulu Mid-Chulu Far East and then Chulu West Peaks which is one of the toughest and high technical skill peaks to climb than all other Chulu’s.

Chulu West situated North West Nepal within Damodar Himal and beyond North of Annapurna Himalayan range, the climbing grade listed as TD used as per French and Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification System, where TD grade means ‘Technical Diffcule’.

Certainly a tough mountain to climb but worth the experience of mountaineering skills and endurance which will be great practice on rocks and snow with ice climbing before planning for next major mountaineering adventure around high Himalayan peaks.

Chulu West Peak Climb leads you with exciting drive from Kathmandu towards North Mid Western Himalaya to reach low warm areas of Lamjung district, and then walk starts heading into cooler alpine hills covered with enchanting woodland of tall rhododendron (national flower of Nepal), magnolia, oaks and pines trees and within lovely interesting villages interwoven with Buddhism religion and cultures.

Walk leads past Jagat-Dharpani and Chame town (headquarter and administrative town of Manang areas), and then slowly reaching into scenic and beautiful Manang valley with daily views of snow clad peaks all along the walks.

Adventure leads following Marsyangdi River right to its source its glacial source around Manang and its main village of immense culture similar to Tibetan heritage way of life, at Manang exploring its scenic view points and traditional villages and then heading towards our main goal of the adventure at Chulu West Base Camp.

Journey leads into windswept terrain and Yaks grazing fields to reach a remote and hidden areas at Chulu West base camp, away from main and popular route of Annapurna Circuit trail for few days.

Climb is undertaken with much preparation and acclimatization days using excellent camping facilities of cooks-kitchen staff backed by expert climbing guides and strong cheerful porters to carry the gear.

An adventure leads to high camp and then making safety and accessible route to approach the summit of Chulu West after a hard and tough technical effort reaching the highlight peak of the trip then descend back on the main trail to cross over high Thorang-la pass at above 5,416 m high.

After a climb and over the scenic pass heading to a big drop to land at Kaligandaki River valley at Lower Mustang areas, with time at holy Muktinath areas and then reaching at Jomsom, the headquarter and main town of Mustang district.

A smooth and scenic short flight in a small aircraft brings you at picturesque valley in Pokhara blessed with mountains and lakes where our mesmerizing adventure on Chulu West Climb concludes.

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Chulu West Peak Climb.
Day 03: Drive to Syange 1,140m via Besisar – 06 hrs.
Day 04: Trek to Dharapani 1,920m – 05 hours.
Day 05: Trek to Chame 2,670 m – 06 hours.

Day 07: Trek to Manang village 3,540 m – 05 hrs.

Day 17: Trek to Jomsom 2,715 – 04 hrs.
Day 18: Fly to Pokhara 860 m afternoon free for individual activities.
Day 19: From Pokhara drive to Kathmandu 1,345 m – 06hrs.
Day 20: In Kathmandu free day for individual activities.
Day 21: International departure homeward bound.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotels.
On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, where you will be received with warm welcome and then transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city, after checking in getting refreshed rendezvous with other climbing members and staff.

Here our guide or group leader will brief you with information regarding trek and climb of Chulu West Peak, with welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese Restaurants includes Folk program of various parts of Nepal.

 

Day 02:                 In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Chulu West Peak Climb.

A free day in Kathmandu for full preparations and packing as well to purchase necessary equipments, on this day where one can take an optional sightseeing tour at places of interest around Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur cities, where you will witness culture and historical sites, most of the monuments listed on World Heritage Sites.

Day 03:                 Drive to Syange 1,140m via Besisar – 06 hrs.
Morning overland journey on main busy highway of Nepal heading towards Mid West zone around Lamjung and Manang districts, drive leads through Himalayan foothills within warmer areas past many farm villages and town.

Day 04: Trek to Dharapani 1,920m – 05 hours.

From Syange first day walk begins with a climb leaving behind Marshyangdi River to reach at Jagat village, a farm village with many lodges for trekkers.

 

After Jagat walk on winding path to Chamje to join back at Marshyangdi River crossing the river heading into forested area, with super views of Annapurna and Manaslu mountain ranges.

As the walk continues reaching Tal Besi, from here another few hours walk leads to overnight stop at Dharapani village.

 

Dharapani a nice village located on the junction of Annapurna circuit and Manaslu trekking trail.

 

Day 05: Trek to Chame 2,670 m – 05 hours.

With pleasant overnight stop in Dharapani morning walk into rhododendron and pine forest passing villages of Bagarchap and Danque, then at Timang village with more Buddhist cultured village including views of Mt. Manaslu 8,163m / 26,781ft. From Timang village few hours trek leads to Koto close to Chame town.

 

After a refreshing stop at Koto where trail to Nar-Phu and towards Chame beyond joins, from here a short slow uphill walk brings you at Chame for the overnight stop, Chame a large major and headquarter town of Manang district.

 

Day 06: Trek to Pisang 3, 230 m – 05 hrs.

From here onwards feel the cool and fresh mountain air, morning walk leads through enchanting alpine forests of rhododendron and pine tree lines following the Marshyangdi River upstream with several ups and downs to Bhratang village, after this small village walk follows uphill’s through the woodlands at Dukure Pokhari with couple of teahouses overlooking views of Chulu’s and Pisang peak and of Pisang village, after a break here descending to reach the lower Pisang village for overnight stop.

 

Day 07:                 Trek to Manang 3,540 m – 05 hrs.

Morning walk leads you towards Manang main village, on route with short stop at Humdre and at Braga villages before reaching at Manang village after a great scenic walk of the day.

Morning views of mountains, from Pisang walk leads facing Annapurna II and III, Gangapurna Chulu’s and Pisang peak.

Walking on flat valley at Hongde village with its small airstrip, from here onward easy pleasant treks then reaching at main Manang village for overnight stop in the comfort of nice and cozy lodges.

 

Before Manang, visit old Braga monastery with old Buddhist relics, ancient wall painting and frescos and stunning views of Annapurna Himalaya, from here an hour walk reaches at Manang village.

 

Day 08:                 Rest day at Manang for acclimatization and short hike.
A rest day in this nice traditional Manang village for acclimatization and short hike to a view point hill below massive Mt. Gangapurna Ice falls and glaciers above Manang emerald colored lake, afternoon explore Manang village of great interest with Buddhist tradition and culture.

 

Day 09: Trek to Ledar 4,280 m past Yak Kharka – 04 hrs.

After a nice stop in Manang village, walk leads to Ghunsang village and then at Yak Kharka to reach our destination at Ledar, an interesting morning walk with grand views of snowcapped mountains, on crossing a small stream reaching at Yak Kharka, a small and remote settlement of Manang villagers where in early days used to be a Yak grazing land.

 

Yak Kharka houses 4-5 good lodges to stay with super views of Mt. Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Tilicho and Chulu’s Peaks, from here a short walk to reach our overnight stop at Ledar with few good lodges to stay on route Thorang-la and to Chulu West Peak.

 

Day 10:                   Trek to Chulu West Base Camp 4,700 m – 04 hrs.

From Ledar with last overnight in lodge, where from today onward in tents for few days as our morning heads on leaving behind the main Annapurna Circuit trail.

Our route leads towards complete wilderness to reach over a glacial stream past Yak herder’s shades around Yak grazing fields heading up to a ridge within well hidden valley where our base camp is pitched at 4,700 m high.

 

Day 11: Rest day at Base Camp for acclimatization and to scout the area of the climb.
An important to have one more day before the great climb, where proper acclimatization required  as well to check the climbing gear for the climb, our guide will make sure that everyone is in top physical condition for next morning climb. At base camp our guide will provide information for the climb including use of equipment for Chulu West Peak Climb.

Day 12: Trek and climb to High Camp 5,100 m – 03 hrs.

From Base Camp with pleasant rest on first day camping, morning walk leads up over a steep scree slopes at a Col (ridge) and then reaching north of the Col, ascend the snow slopes for some 200 meters to reach base of a band or rock at an altitude of 5,100m, here our High Camp will be made for the great climb to the summit of Chulu West Peak.

 

Day 13: Climbing the summit of Chulu West Peak and back at base camp.
A Peak of most technical effort to reach its summit, where our expert guide will lead you to a rock band overcoming some difficulty to reach at North-West shoulder of Chulu West at 5,450 m high, where another camp can be pitched on a snow plateau above 5,530m.

From the plateau continue climb up a narrow ridge to its summit where sweeping panorama awaits you of all snow capped mountains facing views of all Chulu’s and Pisang peak.

After a fruitful and strenuous climb to the summit top above 6,485 m high with superb views of Annapurna II, III and IV, Gangapurna, Glacier Dome, Dhaulagiri, Tilicho Peak and Manaslu after a great climb descend safely back to base camp on the same route.

Day 14: Spare and Contingency day in case unfavorable bad weather conditions.
A spare extra day as contingency, in case of bad and unfavorable weather, which can happen occasionally around high Himalaya, if all goes well according to our itinerary using this spare day on route to Jomsom and Pokhara having short day enjoying beautiful views along the walks.

 

Day 15:                 Trek to Thorang- La High Camp or Phedi 4,450 m – 06 hrs.

From base walk back to Ledar and then continue towards at the base of Thorang-la pass, on crossing a bridge with a climb along Jarjung River, final day walk leads at Thorang Phedi with 3-4 lodges and then with short rest an hour steep climb reaches you at Thorang High Camp for overnight stop.

 

Day 16: Cross Thorang La 5,416m | 17,769 ft and trek to Muktinath 3,800 m- 06 hrs.
One of the highlight of the adventure beside Chulu West Peak climb, after an early breakfast walk leads to a long climb to reach on top Thorang-la on winding steep path.

Thorang-La Pass above 5,416 m and 17,700 ft the top festooned with thousands of Buddhist colorful prayer flags, with a sign board of Thorang-La and its specific heights.

 

From here facing grand view of snowcapped peaks, a long descends takes you at holy Muktinath around Lower Mustang area.

 

On reaching Muktinath for overnight stop, one of the holiest of all holy spot for Hindu religion and as well for some Buddhist, the word Muktinath literally means ‘place for Nirvana or Liberation’.

 

Day 17: Trek to Jomsom 2, 715 m – 04 hours.

From Muktinath, rest of the walks is easier with big drop of 1,200m as the trail descend to Kaligandaki river valley to reach at Jomsom, headquarter town of Mustang region with a small airstrip above Kaligandaki River, an interesting country around Kaligandaki River valley within dry and arid country with incredible views of windblown hills and canyons.

A pleasant walk of few hours brings you at large town in Jomsom the capital of Thakali people interwoven with Tibetan Buddhism practice.  At Jomsom for overnight stop within Mustang district a town with nice paved streets and many well kept lodges.

Kaligandaki area famous for delicious apples and its products, here celebrate with local apple products cider, brandy and juices.

Day 18:           Fly to Pokhara and transfer to hotel.
Morning walk to Jomsom airport for short scenic flight to reach at picturesque Pokhara valley, during air amazing views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayan peaks, as the plane land at scenic Pokhara.

A popular and main touristic destinations of Nepal, overlooking massive Annapurna Mountains with serene Phewa Lake where our hotels located, afternoon free for individual activities and souvenir shopping or just relax and enjoy the views.

Day 19: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.
Morning catching last views of Annapurna Himalaya with majestic Machhapuchare Himal or Fish Tail, and then an exciting overland journey to reach back into the hustle bustle city life of Kathmandu after a great experience and overwhelming time on Chulu West Peak Climb.

Day 20:                 In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour.
A day reserved as spare and free day in case of delay on climb due to bad weather conditions, with opportunity for sightseeing tour for few hours, after an interesting sightseeing back to hotel with afternoon free at leisure for individual activities.

Day 21: International departure for home ward bound.
After a great and grand experience around high hill and mountains of Annapurna with successful climb on top Chulu West Peak, depart from the hotel to the airport for final departure homeward bound or to respective destinations.
