Dhampus / Thapa Peak towers high above beautiful and scenic hidden valley at above
6,012 m and 19,839 ft high, located at the end of Hidden Valley within great massive range of world’s seventh highest Mt. Dhaulagiri 8,167m with Tukuche Peak 7,123 m.

Adventure to Dhampus / Thapa Peak leads you around marvelous country of North Far West Nepal Himalaya, taking an overland journey from Kathmandu to reach at scenic and famous Pokhara blessed with natural beauty of lakes and mountains.

From Pokhara heading due west past farm villages and town of Beni to reach our trekking point at Darbang at the junction of Dhaulagiri and Dhorpatan route, from here heading into mid hills exploring Magar people villages and farms.

As the walk progress heading much higher on leaving the last farm village and human settlement for many days into complete wilderness of mountains and ice fields where walk leads into deep green forest of tall rhododendron-magnolia-oaks-pines and fir tree lines and soon vegetation ends reaching at remorseless fields of ice and glaciers at Dhaulagiri base camp.

From scenic Hidden valley heading towards our main goal of the adventure for the climb of Dhampus / Thapa peak, where the grade listed as PD means ‘per difficule’ from French / Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification a straightforward climbing peaks with some technical difficulties to tackle on route the summit top.

With our staff and guide full support reaching the summit at above 6,012 m and 19,839 ft high where you feel high with grand panorama of Nilgiris, Annapurna I (8,091m / 26,545ft) Annapurna South (7,219m-23,693ft), Gangapurna (7,455m-24,457ft) and Annapurna III (7,555m-24,787ft) to Mt. Machhapuchare (Fish-tail) 6,997 m with 08th highest Mt. Manaslu 8,163 m, range of mountains with Lamjung Himal towards far eastern horizon.

After a wonderful and exciting climb heading down towards Kaligandaki River valley of Lower Mustang to join at popular and famous Annapurna circuit trekking route

Thapa / Dhampus Peak Climb adventure starting with a drive to low warm areas of Pokhara and Beni and heading towards cooler alpine zone of thick alpine forest of tall pines-oaks-rhododendron and fir tree lines and heading for some day in pure wilderness within pure wilderness of moraine-ice and glaciers beneath towering North Face of Mt. Dhaulagiri at 8,167 m high with tumbling Ice Falls.

One of the few treks in the Himalaya region where you can follow the river right to its glacial source within massive glaciers of Dhaulagiri and adjoining satellite peaks from I –II – III to Dhaulagiri groups of peaks which extends towards Mustang and Dolpo regions.

Our fascinating adventure leads over a high French Pass to reach at beautiful hidden valley, wide pasture areas for yaks and other cattails, with enough rest and acclimatization our actual adventure begins from here for the climb of Thapa / Dhampus Peak a stunning peak located at the edge of hidden valley towering at 6,012 m high.

The climb is graded PD + using from French and Swiss alpine climbing system and classifications, a straightforward climb with some technical effort in few sections to its summit top, where our expert guide will lead you to the summit and back safe and sound.

After an exciting climb with awesome panorama from the top, heading downhill towards Kaligandaki river valley at lower Mustang areas around charming Marpha village and Jomsom town for scenic short flight back to Pokhara and then an interesting drive to Kathmandu, where our magnificent and memorable adventure Thapa / Dhampus Peak Climb concludes.

Brief Itinerary:

Day 01:            Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02:            In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Dhampus / Thapa Peak Climb.
Day 03:            Drive or fly to Pokhara 950m (30 mins flight and 6 hrs drive)
Day 04:            Drive to Darbang 1,200 m via Beni 900 m -06 hrs.
Day 05:            Trek to Riverside1, 700 m – 04 hrs.
Day 06:            Trek to Bagar 2,375m -05 hrs.
Day 07:            Trek to Dovan 2,600m-06 hours.
Day 08:            Trek to Chartare / Bhaisi Kharka 3,000m -05 hrs.
Day 09:            Trek to Pakhaban (Japanese Camp.) 3,750m -05 hrs.
Day 10:             Trek to Dhaulagiri Base Camp 4,750m – 06 hrs.
Day 11:              Trek to Hidden Valley 4,900m via French Pass 5,360m.
Day 12:              At Hidden Valley preparation for the climb of Dhampus / Thapa peak.
Day 13:              Trek to Thapa / Dhampus Peak High Camp – 04 hrs.
Day 14:              Climb Thapa / Dhampus peak and return to base camp at hidden valley.
Day 15:              Reserve and Contingency day in case of bad unfavorable weather condition.
Day 16:              Trek to Yak Kharka 4,915m – 05 hrs.
Day 17:              Trek to Marpha 2,670 m and drive to Jomsom 2,715 m – 05 hrs.
Day 18:              Fly to Pokhara 22 mins of scenic flight and transfer to hotel near Phewa Lake.
Day 19:              Drive or fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.
Day 20:             In Kathmandu free day with individual activities.
Day 21:              International departure for home ward bound.

Following items can be bought or hired in Kathmandu.

Day 01:            Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotels.
On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, where you will be received with warm welcome and then transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city, after checking in getting refreshed rendezvous with other climbing members and staff.

Here our guide or group leader will brief you with information regarding trek and climb of Dhampus / Thapa Peak, with welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese Restaurants includes Folk program of various parts of Nepal.

Day 02:            In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Dhampus Peak Climb.

We have allowed and reserved a day in Kathmandu for full preparations and packing as well to purchase necessary equipments for the climb and adventure trek to Dhampus Peak.

On this day where one can take an optional sightseeing tour at places of interest around Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur cities, where you will be soaked within culture and historical sites most of the monuments listed as World Heritage Sites.

Day 03:            Drive to Pokhara 950m – 06 hrs journey distance 220 k.m.
Morning overland journey on the main busy highway of Nepal heading towards Mid West zone at Pokhara, drive leads through Himalayan foothills within warmer areas past many farm villages and town.

Finally this exciting drive reaching at Pokhara, then transfer to respective hotels by the beautiful and serene Phewa Lake with afternoon free for short walks.
(Options by Air 30 minutes scenic flight to Pokhara).

Day 04:            Drive to Darbang via Beni 900 m – 04 hrs.
After a wonderful stop in scenic Pokhara, morning drive continues for next few hours to reach Beni town to begin our adventure beyond Dhaulagiri base camp with Hidden valley and Dhampus Peak Climb.

Beni a large town and headquarter of Dhaulagiri and Mygdi district from here few hours’ drive brings at Darbang to starting point of our adventurous trek, overnight in best available local lodge and hotels.

Day 05:           Trek to Riverside 1,560 m – 04 hrs.
Starting first day walk of this adventure with a climb towards a small ridge passing several farm area and villages and then the walk is gradual walking along the bank of river Mygdi, after a pleasant day walk reaching to camp by the bank of the river for overnight stop, after noon at leisure for a cool splash in the river and short walk around this least visited area.

Day 06:            Trek to Bagar 2,375m – 06 hrs.
Morning walk follows river for a while reaching a small rural farm village of Jugepani, for lunch time permitting after three hours of good walks, after a break here a steep climb to a ridge for an hour reaching a ridge and then downhill through forest to Bagar, a small farm village overnight camp by the school yard, this will be the last village or human settlement for a week till it joins at popular Annapurna circuit route at Kaligandaki near Marpha.

Day 07:            Trek to Dovan 2,600m – 06 hours.
Morning leaving farm fields of Bagar village, walk into cool forest for an hour and then a steep climb towards forested ridge of bamboo, oaks and rhododendron trees, looking down at Mygdi River, after ending the climb downhill into dense forest of pines and rhododendron to reach at Dovan for overnight camp by river, Dovan a small temporary place with small teahouse in the midst of a forest surrounding.

Day 08:            Trek to Chartare / Bhainsi Kharka 3,000m -05 hrs.
From Dovan morning walk leads to cross an unstable wooden bridge over a river confluence of Mygdi River, after crossing back into woodlands for whole day, walking on winding forest path till Chartare also known as Bhaise Kharka, as this area a grazing place for animals.

Day 09:            Trek to Pakhaban 3,750 m – 05 hrs.
After a pleasant stop in the middle of forest, morning walk leads closer towards Mt. Dhaulagiri South Face flank, with views of Putha Huinchuli, Manapathi and of Dhaulagiri south flank, after 3 hours walk reaching a glaciated area named as Italian camp, from here leaving the forested and tree lines behind for few days, and then t adventure begins walking on glacier and moraine ,rocky ridge to reach a small grassy spot known as Pakhaban and as well called as Japanese camp, as Japanese expeditions to Dhaulagiri camped on this spot.

This camp offers grand view of Dhaulagiri South West face with rear huge wall face of Tsaurabong Peak.

Day 10:            Trek to Dhaulagiri Base Camp 4,750 m – 06 hrs.
From here heading between huge bulk of mountains and deep gorge down below where glacier feds source of Mygdi River, walk continues following moraine and iceberg in few places, climb towards base camp requires a team work to find the right good path on this glaciated sections, after a strenuous walk off the glacier area to reach a rocky place and then at Dhaulagiri base camp for overnight, one of the highlight of the adventure.

Camp is made on rocky area in the shade of Mt. Dhaulagiri I (8,167 m) and its glacier including Tukuche peak with west peaks of Dhaulagiri II (7,751 m.), Dhaulagiri III (7,715 m.) and Dhaulagiri IV (7,618 m.).

Day 11:            Trek to Hidden Valley 4,900m via French Pass 5,360m.
Morning walk leads to highest spot of the trek over French pass at above 5,360 m high, walking on dry glacier and moraines near around the base of Tukuche peak.

Our journey leads high to reach on top of French Pass, festooned with Buddhist prayer flags, after enjoying the surrounding views a short downhill walk of few hours to a wide grassy area at hidden valley for overnight camping.

Hidden Valley camp offers magnificent views of Sita Chuchura, Mukut Himal, and Tashi Kang 5,386 meters, Tukche Peak and Dhaulagiri I.

Day 12:            At Hidden Valley preparations for Thapa /Dhampus Peak climb.
Preparation for the climb and acclimatization here take a short hike rest of the day sorting gears for the climb of Dhampus / Thapa Peak with free afternoon to enjoy the views.

Day 13:            Trek and climb to high camp 5, 560m 04 hrs.
Morning trek and climb to set up the high camp with grand views along the route afternoon survey the route, while our guide will fix ropes where necessary where camp is made at the base of towering Dhampus or Thapa peak at 5,560 m high.

Day 14:            Climb of Thapa / Dhampus Peak and return to base camp.
After being well acclimatize and in sound physical conditions climb starts early morning to the summit of Dhampus / Thapa Peak above 6,012 meters high, with strong support of our expert Climbing Sherpa guides.

If the weather permits with clear fine morning effort to reach the summit top where you will be rewarded with panorama of peaks that encircles you, with close views of Mt. Dhaulagiri massif range, Tukuche peak, Mukut Himal and towards North East views looking at Annapurna and Manaslu mountain range.

After a great strenuous climb and ascent overlooking magnificent views descend back on the same route to base camp.

Day 15:            Contingency and Reserve day.
As usual we always make sure that all adventure to be successful, using a spare day as contingency, in case if there’s problem or difficulty on route trek and climb, as well bad weather condition for the climb of Thapa / Dhampus peak summit.

If all goes well we can carry on to next camp to nice area to make the next day a shorter for the journey back to Pokhara.

On this day if not moving just relax and enjoy the views and explore on this least trekked area around Hidden valley.

Day 16:            Trek to Yak Kharka 4,915m via Thapa pass 5,250 m – 05 hrs.
After a wonderful stop at Hidden Valley with a climb of Dhampus / Thapa Peak, our walk leads to a long descend on crossing over Thapa or Dhampus pass at 5,250 m high, from the top views of Annapurna Himal with Nilgiris peaks.

Enjoying the scenery and then on downhill walk to Yak Kharka for overnight camp and back at green vegetation of Juniper, Burberry and rhododendron bushes with views of snow capped peaks.

Day 17:            Trek to Marpha 2,670 m and drive to Jomsom 2,715 m – 05 hrs.
From quiet and peaceful camp with views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range heading into alpine woodland and a big drop of 1,200 m downhill to reach Kaligandaki river valley, where our pleasant day walk ends around Mustang area within Kaligandaki River valley in charming Marpha village.

One of the most attractive villages around Himalaya with white painted houses and neat paved street with well kept lodges. At Marpha celebrate with local apple products cider, brandy and juice this area from Kagbeni to Larjung is famous for delicious apples.

After a break at Marpha a short drive leads to Jomsom, a headquarter town of whole Mustang areas with a small airstrip for next day flight to Pokhara.

Day 18:            Fly to Pokhara and transfer to hotel.
Morning walk to Jomsom airport for short scenic flight to reach at picturesque Pokhara valley, during air amazing views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayan peaks, as the plane land at scenic Pokhara.

A popular and main touristic destinations of Nepal, overlooking massive Annapurna Mountains with serene Phewa Lake where our hotels located, afternoon free for individual activities and souvenir shopping or just relax and enjoy the views.

Day 19:            Drive or fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.
Morning catching last views of Annapurna Himalaya with majestic Machhapuchare Himal or Fish Tail, and then an exciting overland journey to reach back into the hustle bustle city life of Kathmandu after a great experience and overwhelming time on Dhampus / Thapa Peak Climb.

Day 20:                        In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour.
A day reserved as spare and free day in case of delay on climb due to bad weather conditions, with opportunity for sightseeing tour for few hours, after an interesting sightseeing back to hotel with afternoon free at leisure for individual activities.

Day 21:            International departure for home ward bound.
After a great and grand experience around high hill and mountains of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna with successful climb on top Dhampus / Thapa Peak, depart from the hotel to the airport for final departure homeward bound or to respective destinations.
