Introduction:

Island Peak / Imjatse Himal located on high Khumbu valley within beautiful and scenic Imjatse valley, the word Island peak due to its unique location in the midst of Imjatse valley as well known as Imjatse peak.

Island Peak / Imjatse Himal stand high at Island peak stands at 6,189m/ 20,305 ft high, a broken ridge and a flank of close Mt. Lhotse caused by snow, strong winds and avalanches some hundreds of years back.

We have listed the climbing grade of Island Peak or Imjatse Himal as PD + which means ‘Per Diffcule’ used worldwide on this alpine climbing classification from French and Swiss Alpine Climbing System, the grade means climb leads to long snow line, moraine and glaciers with some technical effort.

Island Peak / Imjatse Himal leads to straightforward climb to its summit with few technical sections to tackle, where our expert Sherpa Climbing guides will support you all the way to the top and back safely down.

Island Peak / Imjatse Himal adventure leads you towards Nepal Mid Eastern Himalaya range within high, scenic Khumbu valley hidden within world highest mountains Mt. Everest and
Mt. Lhotse and close to world’s 5th highest Mt. Makalu in the east direction.

Our adventure on Island Peak/ Imjatse Himal climb a great combination with visit of Everest base camp and climb of rocky hill top Kalapathar at 5,545 m which provides you to acclimatize well before our ascent on the summit of Island Peak at 6,189m high.

The climb is well planned providing you with much rest and spare day for acclimatization and practice climb, where our professional mountain guide will offer you instruction and information regarding the climb and trek to Island Peak / Imjatse Himal.

Island Peak / Imjatse Himal adventure starts with short and scenic flight in a small aircraft to reach at Lukla from Kathmandu, from here our actual trek begins through nice and lovely Sherpa farm villages with well tended farm terraces following raging Dudh Kosi upstream.

After walking past Phakding and Monjo villages reaching high colorful Namche Bazaar, at Namche with rest days for short hike and excursion in the shade of Amadablam and Everest with other adjoining peaks.

Namche Bazaar where colorful and busy Saturday Market takes place once a week, from here our adventure continues higher above to reach at beautiful spot within Thyangboche Monastery.

A lovely place with immense views of snow capped peaks with time to visit its interesting monastery, where many climbers also takes blessing from a high priest and Lama for safe and successful climb on Everest and other high peaks around Khumbu region.

From here onwards green vegetation and tree lines drops for wild and scenic arid country as the walk leads past Pangboche-Pheriche and to Lobuche, as the adventure gets closer to our destination to Island Peak, after visiting Everest Base Camp and climb of Kalapathar at above 5,545 m with exceptional views of giant peaks with Mt. Everest a close distance.

Finally walk leads away from the main tracks reaching Imjatse valley at Island base camp for exciting climb to the summit on top Island Peak / Imjatse Himal, offers you with incredible scenery.

After a strenuous climb and marvelous time around high Imjatse valley, return journey leads back to Lukla with last overnight at Khumbu, where a morning scenic flight brings you to Kathmandu with memorable adventure of a lifetime experience on Island Peak / Imjatse Himal climb.

Brief Itinerary:

Day 01:            Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02:            In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Island Peak Climb.
Day 03:            Fly to Lukla 2,830 m & trek to Phakding 2,640 m – 04 hrs.
Day 04:            Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m – 05 hrs.
Day 05:            Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion.
Day 06:            Trek to Thyangboche 3,867 m – 05hrs.
Day 07:            Trek to Pheriche 4,240 m – 05hrs.
Day 08:            Trek to Lobuche 4,930 m – 05 hrs.
Day 09:            Trek to Gorakshep 5,180 m, and walk to Everest Base Camp 5,364 m – 06 hrs.
Day 10:            Climb on top Kalapathar 5,545 m and walk to Chhukung 4,730 m – 06 hrs.
Day 11:            Trek to Island Peak Base Camp – 4,970 m – 04 hrs.
Day 12:            At Base Camp rest day and preparation for the climb.

Day 15:            Contingency or spare day in case of unfavorable weather.

Following items can be bought or hired in Kathmandu.

Day 01:            Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotels.
On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, where you will be received with warm welcome and then transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city, after checking in getting refreshed rendezvous with other climbing members and staff.

Here our guide or group leader will brief you with information regarding trekking and Island / Imjatse Himal Climb, with welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese Restaurants includes Folk program of various parts of Nepal.

Day 02:            In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Island Peak.

A free day in Kathmandu for full preparations and packing as well to purchase necessary equipments, on this day where one can take an optional sightseeing tour at places of interest around Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur cities, where you will be soaked within culture and historical sites most of the monuments listed as World Heritage Sites.

Day 03:            Fly to Lukla 2,886m and walk to Phakding 2,640m – 04 hrs
Morning transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for sweeping 30 minutes scenic flight in a smaller aircraft to Lukla with panorama of snow clad mountains with Everest in view during airborne.

 

On reaching at Lukla airport named Tenzing & Hillary Airport, after sorting out gear and getting refreshed start walk to Phakding for overnight stop, as the route leads towards many Sherpa farm villages with great views, and the slowly walk reaches you at Phakding village for first overnight in Khumbu region.

 

Day 04:            Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m – 06 hrs.

Morning walk starts walking on the bank of Dudh Kosi River, crossing bridges to reach at the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park in Monjo village, after checking inside the Park walk leads to last village at Jorsalle.

 

From here walk leads to cross last high bridge and then with uphill walk for few hours heading towards Namche Bazaar, here with two nights in this prosperous large village as well the main centre and capital of Khumbu, where one can find facilities of ATMs, Cyber cafes, stores, shops, restaurants, banks and fresh bakery with busy colorful Saturday market.

 

Day 05:            Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization.

Namche an ideal place for acclimatization, on rest relax or take a short hike up to the park museum which houses great range of information from mountaineering, flora- fauna with Sherpa cultures and Buddhist religion.

 

From here enjoy grand panorama of high snow capped mountains with Mt. Everest and stunning peak Amadablam, other optional walk up to Everest View Hotel for another beautiful views of surrounding mountains.

 

Day 06:            Trek to Thyangboche 3,867 m – 05hrs.
After a pleasant rest at Namche, morning walk on gradual winding trail into rhododendron woodland, with views of Amadablam, Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Tharmarserku and Kwangde peaks.

 

Walk leads to a short descend to Imjatse River at Phunge Tenga, after a refreshing stop climb for few hours into a cool serene forest to Thyangboche Monastery.

 

A scenic spot with grand views of Amadablam, Kangtenga, Tharmarserku, Kwangde and Mt. Everest, a holy spot as the head lama (Rinpoche) of the monastery resides here.

Mountaineers take blessing from high lama or priest for successful climb and safe expedition.

 

Day 07:            Trek to Pheriche 4,240 m – 05hrs.
From Thyangboche catching super panorama of mountains then head downhill into lush and green woodland to reach a metal bridge over Imjatse River, from here uphill walk to Pangboche, the last permanent Sherpa farm village before Island Peak and Everest base camp, as our walk leads to Somare for lunch with super views of Amadablam at close distance, and then heading on gradual path with short climb to reach at Pheriche windy valley.

Pheriche at 4,240 m located within beautiful valley with views of Amadablam including Lhotse and stunning Taboche and Cholatse peaks, Pheriche with many good fine lodges here you can visit HRA (Himalayan Rescue Association) office with a small medical post.

 

Day 08:            Trek to Lobuche 4,930 m – 05 hrs.

On leaving Pheriche walking on the valley end, and then with short climb to a ridge to reach at Thugla (Dugla), here trail from Pheriche valley and Dingboche joins towards Everest Base Camp.

 

From Thugla stunning views of Taboche, Cholatse, Lobuche, Pumori, Amadablam, after a lunch break and rest climb leads up to terminal debris of Khumbu Glacier coming a across many memorials of unfortunate climbers died on mountain of Khumbu, from here continue walk to Lobuche for overnight stop.

 

Day 09:            Trek to Gorakshep 5,170 m and Everest Base Camp 5, 364 m – 06 hrs.

Our route today quite tough due to gain in altitude offering tremendous views of
Mt. Pumori, Lingtrin, Khumbutse and Mt. Everest.

 

After few hours of strenuous scenic walk reaching at Gorakshep as the walk leads over moraine and icy path, Gorakshep a nice small place with some nice lodges on route Everest Base Camp, after a break here continue walk east towards Everest Base Camp.

Walk leads over moraine and ice close to Khumbu glacier to reach our destination beneath towering Mt. Everest with views of notorious Khumbu Ice falls and glaciers.

 

With enjoyable and marvelous moment at Everest Base Camp retrace the walk back to Gorakshep for overnight stop.

 

Day 10:            Climb on top Kalapathar 5,545 m and walk to Chhukung 4,730 m – 06 hrs.

Morning optional hike uphill to Kalapathar top at 5,545 m high, offers fantastic close view of Mt. Everest with surrounding peaks.

 

After catching views of mountains downhill walk to Gorakshep, and then continue walks to Imjatse valley towards Island Peak base camp and Chhukung within Imjatse valley.

 

Our route takes you on near level ground with fabulous views during the walk all the way to Bibre a small settlement, after a short rest continue walk towards further east for overnight stop at Chhukung, a small place with few lodge to cater the needs of the trekkers and climbers.

 

Day 11:            Trek to Island Peak Base Camp 4,970m – 04 hrs.
After a wonderful stop in cozy lodge at Chhukung, today onward for few days in tents camping for few nights till the climb is done, morning walk leads to our main highlight and goal to Island Peak base camp located in a scenic spot at Parshya Gab, here setting our camps with afternoon free to practice climbing with our expert guide.

Day 12:            At base camp acclimatization and preparations.

Today a full day rest with time for climbing preparation, gathering all climbing gears from the porters and Yaks sorting out the right equipments and planning with some practices before the final climb on top Island Peak or Imjatse Himal.

Day 13:            Trek Island Peak High Camp 5,400 m – 04 hrs.
Our real adventure begins on heading higher to pitch a high camp above 5,400 m high, to make the climb much easier and accessible, morning on leaving base camp to high camp leading above moraine towards an open gully, which is between two well defined ridges to reach high camp beneath a small hanging glacier at 5, 280 m high.

Here with time in the afternoon for final preparations for the big climb next early morning.

Day 14:            Climb on top Island Peak – 06 hrs.
The climb on top Island peak above 6,160 m / 20,328 ft high grade is PD + taken from French and Swiss Alpine Climbing System, on final and a Big Day!

Starting early morning before dawn as our guide leads you across broad open gully, following snow-covered glacier, avoiding serac and crevasses climbing northwards over snow covered scree in the margin between a glaciers facing a top ridge.

Climb continues crossing a gully with some stone and icefall dangers, a steep snow and ice ramp takes you above 100 meters (300ft) to the main summit, on reaching the top where your adventure of a lifetime experience with great dreams accomplished into a successful climb with amazing panorama of Mt. Everest 8,848 m, Lhotse 8,501 m, Mt. Amadablam 6,856 m, Mt. Makalu 8, 463 m, Chamlang and Baruntse peaks, after a great climb feeling high spirit descend on the same route towards base camp.

Day 15:            Reserve and contingency days in case of unfavorable weather.
We have allowed spare day as contingency just in case of unfavorable bad weather, if all goes well according to our standard itinerary, this spare day can be used with slow and scenic walk back to Lukla having some short day on route, where you can enjoy the views and local culture during the trek.

Day 16:            Clean up the base camp and packing for return journey.
Every member and staff should be at base camp on this day to clean up the garbage to hand over designated SPPC personal (Sagarmatha Pollution Project Control) as well packing gears for Yaks to carry onward to Lukla.

Day 17:            Trek to Dingboche 4,360 m – 06 hrs.
An easy walk on losing altitude after a great climb on top Island Peak, where walks follows on the same route to Chhukung, and then towards the end of Imjatse valley reaching at Dingboche.

Dingboche at one time summer temporary settlement of farmers and Yak herders, at present many houses have flourished serving as guest house and lodge to travelers on this beautiful valley.

Day 18:            Trek to Thyangboche – 05 hrs.
Morning after a pleasant stop at Dingboche return journey on downhill and up to Thyangboche Monastery after a nice pleasant walk.

From Dingboche continue walk with super views of Amadablam, Nuptse wall, Lhotse, and then heading downhill and back into lower altitude within tree lines, as the walk leads to a climb reaching our overnight stop at scenic Thyangboche.

 

Day 19:            Trek to Monjo 2,860 m – 06 hrs.
Walk continues to retrace on the same route from Thyangboche with downhill to Phungi Tenga, after crossing a bridge an hour climb and then on gentle winding trail all the way to Namche Bazaar, at Namche for lunch break and then continue downhill walk towards Dudh Kosi River with nice walk and last short climb to reach our overnight stop in Monjo village.

 

Day 20:            Trek to Lukla – 04 hrs.

From Monjo following Dudh Kosi River bank, and then with few short ups and downs to reach

At Phakding, then retrace the journey back to Lukla on this last day walk of the adventure.

On reaching Lukla for lunch and overnight stop where you can have fun with evening party and last dinner around high Khumbu within Everest region.

 

Day 21:            Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
From Lukla flight starts from early morning to Kathmandu in fine clear weather, sometime the flight time can get delayed due to bad weather, as per the flight time board in a small plane for a super, scenic flight back to Kathmandu.

On reaching Katmandu domestic terminal our guide and staff transfer you back to respective hotels in the hub of Kathmandu in and around Thamel area.

Day 22:            In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour.
A day reserved as spare and free day in case of flight delay at Lukla in due to bad weather conditions, with opportunity for sightseeing tour for few hours or at leisure for individual activities.

Day 23:            International departure for home ward bound.
After a great and grand experience around high Khumbu with successful climb on top Island Peak / Imjatse Himal, depart from the hotel to the airport for final departure homeward bound or to respective destinations.
