Introduction:

 

Langtang Valley to Helambu via Ganja-la pass trekking, a great scenic adventure leads you to high ridges of Langtang Himal range within and beyond beautiful Langtang valley to reach at charming villages of Helambu on crossing high Ganja-la pass with sweeping panorama of Langtang and Jugal Himal range as far to mountains of Tibet across the border.

Langtang Valley to Helambu via Ganja-la pass trekking, a moderate and adventurous trek with slight altitude touch till Langtang valley at Kyanjin Gompa, on leaving beautiful Langtang areas where altitude gains on crossing high Ganja-la pass at above 5,122 m / 16, 902 ft high.

Before the climb over our main highlight and goal of the adventure on crossing Ganja-la, with enough time to acclimatize and as well to explore its wonderful areas with awesome scenery where you will be surrounded by high peaks.

Beginning our journey heading north of Kathmandu taking an interesting drive to reach at Syabrubesi village within Langtang Himal, and then heading due north through lovely Tamang farm villages of immense Buddhist culture similar to Tibetans where Tibet border touches further north.

Walk leads into enchanting green forest filled with tall rhododendron-pines-oaks-magnolia and fir trees with bamboo thickets where sometime one can spot the rare and endangered Red Panda around the walk to Langtang valley.

On reaching at Kyanjin Gompa within beautiful Langtang valley and then our adventure leads towards Helambu after crossing high Ganja-la pass within complete wilderness away from villages and human settlement for few days.

Walk leads to another area of Langtang and Jugal Himal at Tarke Gyang village within fabulous Helambu district, famous for traditional arts of woodcrafts and colorful culture of Buddhism religion.

Slowly our adventure completes taking a drive back to Kathmandu after a most mesmerizing and enjoyable time on Langtang Valley to Helambu via Ganja-la pass trekking.

Brief Itinerary:

Day 01:  Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02:  In Kathmandu preparation for Langtang Valley to Helambu via Ganja-la pass trekking.
Day 03:  Drive to Syabrubesi 1,460 m via Trisuli Bazaar – 06 hrs.
Day 04:  Trek to Lama Hotel 2,430 m – 06 hours.
Day 05:  Trek to Langtang village 3,430 m -06 hours.
Day 06:  Trek to Kyanjin Gompa 3,749 m -04 hours.
Day 07:  At Kyanjin Gompa rest day for acclimatization.
Day 08:  Trek to Ganja La Phedi 4,300m – 05 hrs
Day 09:  Cross Ganja La pass 5,122 m descend to Keldang 4,250m – 07 hrs.
Day 10:  Reserve and contingency day in case of bad unfavorable weather conditions.
Day 11:  Trek to Dukpu 4,080 m – 05 hrs.
Day 12:  Trek to Tarke Gyang 2,590 m – 04 hours.
Day 13:  Trek to Sermathang 2,610 m – 04 hours.
Day 14:  Drive to Kathmandu via Melamche Bazaar – 05 hrs.
Day 15:  International Departure homeward bound.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotels.
On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, where you will be received with warm welcome and then transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city, after checking in getting refreshed rendezvous with other climbing members and staff.

Here our guide or group leader will brief you with information regarding Langtang Valley to Helambu via Ganja-la pass trekking, with welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese Restaurants includes Folk program of various parts of Nepal.

Day 02: In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Langtang & Ganja-la pass
In Kathmandu for full preparations and packing as well to purchase necessary equipments,
on this free day take an optional sightseeing tour at places of interest around Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur cities, where you will be within culture and historical sites most of the monuments listed as World Heritage Sites.

Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,460m- 06 hours.
Morning starts with exciting scenic drive away from Kathmandu valley, as the drive leads towards North past Nuwakott town and village to reach at Dhunche, headquarter town of Rasuwa district where Langtang National park starts, Dhunche at 1,900 m and then drive leads downhill on winding road to reach at Syabrubesi village for overnight stop.

Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel 2,240m -06 hours.
After fresh morning with mountain air, first day walk of the adventure starts on gradual trail to cross a bridge over Bhote Kosi or upper Trisuli River, after the bridge climb leads to a ridge past scattered Tamang farm villages and terraces to enter into cool alpine forest of tall rhododendron-hemlocks-oaks-magnolia and fir tree lines.

Around this forested area where rare and endangered Red Panda habitats, which is seldom seen along the walk on to Lama Hotel for overnight stop.

Lama Hotel placed in a clearing surrounded within beautiful forests near a raging Upper Trisuli River.

Day 05: Trek to Langtang village 3,430m – 05 hours.
From Lama Hotel onward walks lead into a gorge covered with dense thick forest offering views of Langtang Lirung along the walk to reach at Ghoretabela, located in the midst of green woodland, after a pleasant rest walk continues with short ups into a forest to reach at Langtang village for overnight stop.

Langtang village was badly destroyed in 2015 earthquakes, this village is slowly coming back to normal; here visit around Tamang farm houses enrich with old culture of Buddhism religion.

Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa 3,749 m – 04 hours.
After breakfast, today a short walk to Kyanjin Gompa located within beautiful Langtang valley, reaching with a day in this magnificent valley is one of the highlight of this adventure.

Walk starts with short climb as the gorge opens into a wide scenic valley, where tree lines drops for short alpine bushes of azalea plants and juniper bushes with dramatic views of snow covered peaks.

Slowly walk takes you at Kyanjin with an altitude of above 3,850 m high surrounded with views of high mountains.

At Kyanjin with overnight stop, afternoon time relax and catch magnificent views and explore its small Cheese factory, established and support of Swiss technical assistance.

Day 07: Rest day for local hike and acclimatization.
A free day to get acclimatize before heading towards Helambu via Ganja-la pass, here enjoy beautiful views of dramatic landscapes and peaks, optional hike to Tsego Ri or Kyanjin hill at above 4,700 m high.

The top offers grand views of Ghengu Liru (Langtang II 6,571m / 21,560ft), Langtang Lirung (7,425m / 23,765ft) Kimshun (6,745m / 22,137ft) and Shalbachum(6,918m / 22, 699ft) to the south, the Chimsedang Lekh a ridge of peaks includes Naya-Kanga 5,846m or Ganjala peak with Gangchempo, Tilman’s beautiful Fluted Peak.

Extending towards Jugal Himal and ending at Mt. Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m / 22,854 ft) within east direction leads to upper meadows at the very end of Langtang valley forming a massive mountain wall and a frontier with Tibet.

Day 08: Trek to Ganja La Phedi 4,300m – 05 hrs.
After an enjoyable time in Kyanjin at beautiful Langtang valley, our next adventure continues heading towards remote and isolated areas and away from human settlement and villages for few days.

As the walk leads south east to cross Langtang Khola (upper Trisuli River) and then into birch and pine woods with climb to the base of Ganja-la pass near Naya Kanga Himal.

Here finding a suitable open space on a grassy field for camping with good facilities of separate kitchen unit of cook-kitchen staff along with guides and porters.

Day 09: Cross Ganja La pass 5,122 m descend to Keldang 4,250m – 07 hrs.
Starting early before sunrise to reach the highest point of the adventure above 5,122 m high, where our guide will fix ropes on necessary sections for climb and as well for long descend to reach other side of Langtang around Helambu.

Climb leads to a steep faint path on rocks and ice, taking much pre-caution reaching on top with superb panorama of high snow capped peaks as far to Shisapangma which is in Tibet side.

From the top using main ropes for easy descend to reach a small glacial pond within woodland for overnight camping in complete wilderness.

Day 10: Contingency day in case of bad unfavorable weather conditions.

A day reserved as contingency, in case of unfavorable bad weather conditions, providing enough time to maintain physical fitness for tough hard climb and descend after Ganja-la Pass, over highest spot of this adventure at 5,122 m high.

If all goes well as per the itinerary days our guides will use this spare days on the walk to Helambu having easy and short day.

Day 11: Trek to Dukpu 4,080 m – 05 hrs.

After a tough climb of previous day, today onward will be easy with moderate walks to Helambu area, as our route leads past few summer pastures on winding downhill walk with some short ups and downs to reach a small settlement at Dukpu for last overnight camping before Tarke Gyang.

Day 12: Trek to Tarke Gyang 2,590 m – 04 hrs.

From here walk leads back into human settlement within farm fields and scattered villages as our walks leads to charming village of Tarke Gyang home of Hyalmo people with interesting culture similar to Sherpa and Tamang tribes of Buddhist religion.

Walk continues downhill crossing a small pass above 4,100 m /13,451 ft with grand views of Ganesh, Langtang and Jugal Himal mountain range including Mt. Everest range towards Far East horizon.

From here on downhill into forest of pines and rhododendron trees to reach at Tarke Gyang for overnight stop.

Tarke Gyang, the main village of Helambu areas, here with time to visit its old Buddhist monastery, Helambu famous for Buddhist culture and beautiful craftsmanship on woods with intricate Tibetan design and carving.

Afternoon free to explore the lovely village and its old monastery dedicated to Goddess Ama Yangri, situated on top of the village.

Day 13: Trek to Sermathang 2,610 m – 04 hours.

Morning on leaving this nice village downhill walk through cool forested passing several village encountering Buddhist monuments and Chhorten, then reaching at Gangyul a small village, from here with few hours walk Shermathang for last overnight stop around Helambu area.

Sermathang another lovely village around Helambu of Hyalmo people, here with time to visit its old monastery of great interest and explore its nice village.

Day 14: Drive to Kathmandu via Melamche Bazaar – 05 hrs.
Our last day of this marvelous adventure within Langtang and Helambu areas, within marvelous surrounding our walk concludes with a drive downhill heading towards warmer low areas at Melamche bazaar.

From here on a wide road to Kathmandu passing hill town of Dhulikhel and Banepa and finally reaching into hustle, bustle city life of Kathmandu and then transfer back into your hotels, with afternoon free to relax or for individual activities and shopping.

Day 15: International departure for home ward bound.
After a great experience on high hill and mountains with Langtang Valley to Helambu via Ganja-la pass trekking, depart from the hotel to the airport for final departure homeward bound or to respective destinations.
