Introduction:

Sherpa Climbing offers adventurer a great exciting climb in our stunning Mt. Himlung Expedition, where you will be within absolute wilderness and in complete bliss in the harmony of nature surrounded by high giant peaks.

Mt. Himlung towers high at 7,126 m and 23,380 ft above the hidden corners of Upper Manang valley within Shangri-la around Nar & Phu areas, where adventure leads beyond for the climb of stunning peak in our marvelous Mt. Himlung Expedition.

Mt. Himlung located North Mid West Nepal Himalaya on the northern side of Annapurna Himalaya, close to Lamjung and Manaslu mountain range within south east of Damodar Himal, where walk leads you into pristine areas, on least ventured routes by main flow of trekkers and adventurer completely away from mainstream trekking trails for few weeks.

On this wonderful Mt. Himlung Expedition, a great opportunity to witness age old traditional of high Manang people within Nar & Phu villages retaining its ancient glory and heritage of Bon and Buddhist religion as it was past hundred of centuries.

Beside great adventure on top Mt. Himlung with scenic walk around cultural villages is equally captivating, as the walk leads you to explore its marvelous traditions and visit of its old monasteries enriched with ancient treasures and colorful practice that makes this trip on Mt. Himlung Expedition more interesting.

Starting with early morning overland drive on Nepal’s most busy highway for few hours and then heading into warmer areas of Lamjung district at Besisar, a major town and headquarter of Lamjung areas.

From here following the glacial Marsyangdi River upstream following the popular Annapurna Circuit trek for some days to Koto near Chame within scenic Manang district, our adventure diverts from the mainstream trail heading towards complete wilderness into barren and arid country of scenic Nar & Phu areas.

With time to explore the sleepy and interesting villages, where our adventure continues further north east to reach our main highlight of the trip at Mt. Himlung base camp at above 4,540 m high.

Here with much time to get acclimatized as well getting organized for the big climb within two weeks duration, where our guide and camping staff supports you safely all the way to the summit top of Mt. Himlung and then back after concluding an arduous climb but feeling in high spirit.

After a great mountaineering adventure of a lifetime experience heading back on the same route enjoying views along the walks, and then drive back to Kathmandu with great mesmerizing moment on Mt. Himlung Expedition within high, scenic Manang and Nar-Phu Valley.

Brief Itinerary:

Day 01:            Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02-03:       In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Mt. Himlung Expeditions.
Day 04:            Drive to Syange 1,140m via Besisar – 06 hrs.
Day 05:            Trek to Dharapani 1,943m – 06 hrs.
Day 06:            Trek to Koto 2,640 m -05 hrs.
Day 07:            Trek to Dharmashala 3,230 m – 05 hours.
Day 08:            Trek to Kyang 3,020 m – 05 hours.
Day 09:            Trek to Phu village 4,080 m – 06hours.
Day 10:            Rest day at Phu village and explore Phu Valley.
Day 11:            Trek to Himlung base camp 4,540 m – 04 hours.
Day 12:            Rest and acclimatization day at Himlung base camp.
Day 13-26:       Climbing period of maximum 14 days with return to base camp.
Day 27:            Clean up day at Base Camp and packing.
Day 28:            Trek back to Phu valley – 04 hrs.
Day 29:            Trek to Kyang 3, 020 m – 05 hours.
Day 30:            Trek to Dharmashala – 05 hours.

Day 34:            Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.
Day 35- 36:      In Kathmandu free day with individual activities.
Day 37:            International departure for home ward bound.

 

Day 01:            Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotels.
On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, where you will be received with warm welcome and then transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city, after checking in getting refreshed rendezvous with other climbing members and staff.

Here our guide or group leader will brief you with information regarding trekking and Mt. Himlung Expedition, with welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese Restaurants includes Folk program of various parts of Nepal.

Day 02-03:      In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Himlung Expeditions.

We have allowed and reserved Two days in Kathmandu for full preparations and packing as well to purchase necessary equipments, press meeting and to collect permits from concern Government department for the expeditions.

On this day where one can take an optional sightseeing tour at places of interest around Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur cities, where you will be soaked within culture and historical sites most of the monuments listed as World Heritage Sites.

Day 04:            Drive to Syange 1,140m via Besisar – 06 hrs.
Morning overland journey on main busy highway of Nepal heading towards Mid West zone around Lamjung and Manang districts, drive leads through Himalayan foothills within warmer areas past many farm villages and town.

Day 05:            Trek to Dharapani 1,943 m – 06 hrs.
From Syange first day walk begins with a climb leaving behind Marshyangdi River to reach at Jagat village, a farm village with many lodges for trekkers.

 

After Jagat walk on winding path to Chamje to join back at Marshyangdi River crossing the river heading into forested area, with super views of Annapurna and Manaslu mountain ranges.

As the walk continues reaching Tal Besi, from here another few hours walk leads to overnight stop at Dharapani village.

 

Dharapani a nice village located on the junction of Annapurna circuit and Manaslu trekking trail.

 

Day 06:            Trek to Koto 2,640 m -05 hrs.
With pleasant overnight stop in Dharapani morning walk into rhododendron and pine forest passing villages of Bagarchap and Danque, then at Timang village with more Buddhist cultured village including views of Mt. Manaslu 8,163m / 26,781ft. From Timang village few hours trek leads to Koto for overnight stop which is close to Chame town, a large and major town and a head quarter of Manang district.

 

Day 07:            Trek to Dharmashala 3,230m – 05 hours.
From Koto our route heads north away from main route past Annapurna circuit trail for a week heading towards Nar & Phu villages, in the hidden areas of Upper Manang valley near South West Tibet border in the country of blue sheep’s and snow leopards.

Trek leads within a narrow valley covered with forest of pines and rhododendron trees, then reaching nice pasture fields with huts and sheds of Yak herders and in the gorge formed by Pisang Peak and Kang-guru Himal lower basin, walk continues following Nar-Phu River upstream to reach at Dharmashala for overnight stop.

Day 08:            Trek to Kyang 4,100 m – 6 hrs.
Morning walk leads towards far north towards Phu village isolated area of dry, arid landscapes, on the lookout for some wildlife’s Blue Sheep’s, Snow Leopard, Musk deer’s and mountain goats.

Walk continues to Kyang for overnight stop after an interesting day, Kyang with dozen houses of Tibetan culture.

Day 09:            Trek to Phu village 4,080 m – 06 hours.
Today destination to Phu village morning walk towards Phu River following upstream for some time and then descending back to river again, then climb to reach a gorge valley, walking around gorge for some time and up into a wide glacial valley with pasture lands ending at Phu village of strong Tibetan influence culture, traditions and religion.

 

Day 10:            Rest at Phu village, visit and hike around Phu village and valley
A necessary rest day at Phu for acclimatization, explore this impressive village visit Tashilkhang and Samdu Choling Monastery and Kyauchyu waterfalls, Phu Village with about 30 houses for 100 to 150 inhabitants.

Nar-Phu region opened in 1992 by Nepal Government, before it was a restricted area, situated around remote and hidden corner of Nepal, close to Tibet border.

Day 11:            Trek to Himlung base camp 4,540 m – 04 hours.
Today a short hike of few hours to reach our main highlight of the adventure at Himlung base camp, walk leads with incredible views of mountains in complete bliss of wilderness, within remote and well hidden corners of high Manang valley and Phu areas.

A few hours of walk hike brings you at Himlung Base Camp for overnight stops and for two weeks period, here in the afternoon practice climbing and our expert guide will instruct and brief regarding climbing techniques and skills required for the climb to the summit of Himlung.

 

Day 12:            Rest and acclimatization day at Himlung base camp.

This day for acclimatization and preparation for the climb, our climbing guide and leader will provide instruction on climbing techniques, sharing their knowledge to make this climb a great success.

 

Day 13-26:      Climbing period of maximum 14 days with return to base camp.

Full 14 days period for the climb, where you will be busy setting necessary high camps and making routes to the summit of Himlung, with few days staying at base camp till weather clears for the final bid to the summit.

 

Weather around high Himalaya is the only main factor for climbers can be unpredictable sometimes, from base camp climb to establish Advance Base Camp above 5,450 m and 17,880 ft high, having rest days for preparation, and then climb with some tough technical efforts and quite challenging to reach the top of Mt. Himlung.

 

Our Camp I will be set at above 6,000 m / 19,685 ft and Camp II at 6,350 m /20,833 ft on South East ridges, from here might require oxygen among some climbers to reach its summit.

After spending few nights in both camps and then depending upon the weather condition for the ascent on top Himlung.

 

After a final plan and decision our adventure leads to a big haul reaching at the top of
Mt. Himlung, where you will be rewarded with marvelous view of high Himalaya range and then descend safely back to Advance Base Camp on route base camp.

 

Descending might be technically difficult than going up, however it not as much difficult and a problem like in other major mountains but you might face some challenges like low level of temperature and low atmospheric pressure after being in high altitude for some days.

 

Day 27:            Clean up the Base Camp.

After great climb to the summit of Himlung and feeling in high spirit descend to base camp for overnights, where every member and staff should be at Base Camp on this day to start cleaning garbage and packing gears as Nepal Himalaya has thousands of trekkers and climbing peaks every year.  Carry the garbage to dump at designated disposal sites on route Koto and Dharapani.

 

Day 28:            Trek back to Phu valley.

From here onward retracing the walk back on the same route with long descend to Phu valley, as the walk leads with spectacular mountain scenery of high Himalaya.  A few hours of trek brings you at Phu valley for overnight stop.

 

Day 29:            Trek to Kyang 3, 020 m – 05 hours.
Today heading and losing more altitude on downhill path with chances of spotting some wildlife like Blue Sheep and Himalayan Thar, as the walk descend downstream at Phu Khola and all the way to Kyang for overnight stop, with enough time in the afternoon for short hike around.

 

Day 30:            Trek to Dharmashala – 05 hours.

The trail first gently descends leading to a deep river gorge, after crossing a bridge over Phu-khola (stream) walk along river bank. A few hours of trek brings to a small settlement of Dharmashala for last overnight stop around Nar-Phu area.

 

Day 31:            Trek to Koto 05 hours.

On leaving Dharmasala leaving behind the Nar-Phu areas, as walk continues to Koto with complete new experience and feeling high after a successful great climb, walk leads to warmer area as the altitude drops with change in vegetations and back into tree lines, a few hours walk brings you at Koto for overnight stop.

 

Day 32:            Trek to Dharapani – 05 hours.

Morning on downhill to Dharapani village following a nice trail past Timang village a vantage view point for views of Mt. Manaslu  8,163 m /26,781ft, The area around Manang rich with age old culture and traditional life.

 

From Timang, walk for few hours through forest of rhododendron, fir, pine, oak and maple to reach Dharapani for overnight stop.

 

Day 33:            Trek to Syange – 06 hrs.

Morning with interesting and scenic walk to Syange around lower areas of Lamjung district, after being around high Manang region, walk follows Marsyangdi River downstream, as our last day walk of the adventure continues through rice terraces fields and villages to reach back at Syange past Jagat village.

Day 34:            Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.
Morning catching last views of Manaslu and Annapurna Himalaya with majestic Machhapuchare Himal / Fish Tail and Lamjung Himal, an exciting overland journey brings you back into the hustle bustle Kathmandu city, after a great experience and overwhelming time on Mt. Himlung Expedition.

Day 35-36:      In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour.
Two days reserved as spare and free day in case of delay on climb due to bad weather conditions, with opportunity for sightseeing tour for few hours, on this day where our leader and guide will submit the reports on Mt. Himlung Expeditions at concern Nepal Government Tourism department.

After an interesting sightseeing back to hotel with afternoon free at leisure for individual activities, these two days

Day 37:            International departure for home ward bound.
After a great and grand experience around high hill and mountains of Manang areas with successful climb on top of Mt. Himlung, depart from the hotel to the airport for final departure homeward bound or to respective destinations.
