Introduction:

Nar-Phu & Kang-La Pass trekking an adventure crossing over two high passes with Thorang-la pass on the way to lower Mustang areas at Jomsom town from high Manang valley.

Nar-Phu & Kang-La Pass trekking, leads on the same route of popular and famous Annapurna Circuit trail for some days and then leaving the main Annapurna trails towards our main destinations to explore hidden areas of Nar-Phu and its interesting old villages and ancient monasteries.

Starting with exciting overland drive to reach at warmer low areas of Lamjung district at Besisar town and then following Marsyangdi River upstream to start our adventurous walks past many lovely mountain villages of Syange-Jagat and Dharapani with constant views of Annapurna and Manaslu range of mountains.

After walking for some days on main trail our adventure leads away from main trails of Annapurna circuit towards complete wilderness into forested river gorge full of pines-rhododendron and oaks trees.

As the walk progress and gorge opens into a beautiful valley of Nar & Phu areas, on the trek chances of spotting some rare and endangered wild-life Blue Sheep and elusive snow leopards.

On reaching hidden Shangri la, visiting first around high Phu villages with its interesting cultures and monasteries of Buddhism religion similar custom and tradition with Tibetans across the border.

After a wonderful time at Phu heading down to Na village of similar custom and houses of Phu and then heading to cross our first pass over Kang-La at above  5,240 m high with sweeping panorama of Annapurna-Chulu’s peaks with Damodar Himal range.

Walk leads downhill to join Annapurna main trails to reach at main village of Manang with exciting walks overlooking fantastic mountain views and then slowly adventure leads over second high pass over Thorang-La, the highest traverse at 5,416 m high.

Enjoying sweeping panorama of mountains with Dhaulagiri and Tukuche peaks, and then heading towards holy Muktinath Temple and its interesting village, with time to explore famous Hindu Muktinath Temple, where thousands of pilgrims pay homage from Nepal and India.

Our wonderful and scenic walk ends with short drive to reach at Kaligandaki River valley within Mustang areas with last overnight stop in Jomsom, the administrative and headquarter town of Mustang district.

From Jomsom a smooth and scenic short flight takes you to beautiful Pokhara city, a famous tourist spot blessed with Annapurna Himalaya and lakes, where our marvelous and mesmerizing Nar-Phu & Kang-la pass trekking concludes.

Day 01:            Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02:            In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Nar-Phu Trek.
Day 03:            Drive to Syange 1,140m via Besisar – 06 hrs.
Day 04:            Trek to Dharapani 1,920m – 05 hours.
Day 05:            Trek to Koto 2,640 m – 05 hrs.
Day 06:            Trek to Dharmashala 3,230 m – 05 hours.
Day 07:            Trek to Kyang 3,020 m – 05 hours.
Day 08:            Trek to Phu village 4,080 m – 06hours.
Day 09:            Rest day at Phu village and explore Phu Valley.
Day 10:            Trek to Nar Phedi 3, 545 m – 06 hrs.
Day 11:            Trek to Nar Gaon 4,206 m – 06 hrs.

Day 13:            Cross Kangla Pass 5, 322 m trek to Ngawal 3,650 m – 07 hrs.
Day 14:            Trek to Manang village 3,540 m – 05 hrs.

Day 16:            Trek to Thorang- La High Camp or Phedi 4,450m – 06 hrs.
Day 17:            Cross Thorang La 5,416m | 17,769 ft and trek to Muktinath 3,800 m-06 hrs.
Day 18:            Trek to Jomsom 2,715 n – 04 hrs.
Day 19:            Fly to Pokhara 860 m and transfer to hotel near Phewa Lake.
Day 20:            From Pokhara drive / fly to Kathmandu 1,345 m – 06 hrs journeys.
Day 21:            In Kathmandu free day for individual activities.
Day 22:            International departure homeward bound.

Day 01:            Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotels.
On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, where you will be received with warm welcome and then transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city, after checking in getting refreshed rendezvous with other climbing members and staff.

Here our guide or group leader will brief you with information regarding Annapurna Circuit Trekking, with welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese Restaurants includes Folk program of various parts of Nepal.

Day 02:            In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Nar-Phu treks.

We reserved a day in Kathmandu for full preparations and packing as well to purchase necessary equipments for the trek.

On this free day, one can take an optional sightseeing tour at places of interest around Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur cities, where you will be soaked within culture and historical sites most of the monuments listed as World Heritage Sites.

Day 03:            Drive to Syange 1,140m via Besisar – 06 hrs.
Morning overland journey on main busy highway of Nepal heading towards Mid West zone around Lamjung and Manang districts, drive leads through Himalayan foothills within warmer areas past many farm villages and town.

Day 04:            Trek to Dharapani 1,920m – 05 hours.

From Syange first day walk begins with a climb leaving behind Marshyangdi River to reach at Jagat village, a farm village with many lodges for trekkers.

 

After Jagat walk on winding path to Chamje to join back at Marshyangdi River crossing the river heading into forested area, with super views of Annapurna and Manaslu mountain ranges.

As the walk continues reaching Tal Besi, from here another few hours walk leads to overnight stop at Dharapani village.

 

Dharapani a nice village located on the junction of Annapurna circuit and Manaslu trekking trail.

 

Day 05:            Trek to Koto 2,640 m -05 hrs.

With pleasant overnight stop in Dharapani morning walk into rhododendron and pine forest passing villages of Bagarchap and Danque, then at Timang village with more Buddhist cultured village including views of Mt. Manaslu 8,163m / 26,781ft.

From Timang village few hours trek leads to Koto close to Chame town.

 

After a refreshing stop at Timang our walk leads on pleasant path to reach at Koto village, where our route diverts to Nar-Phu away from main Annapurna circuit trail.

Koto village for overnight close to Chame a large town and headquarter town of Manang district.

 

Day 06:            Trek to Dharmashala 3,230m – 05 hours.
After Koto our route heads north away from Annapurna circuit trail for a week heading towards Nar & Phu villages, in the hidden areas of Upper Manang valley near South West Tibet border in the country of blue sheep’s and snow leopards.

Trek leads into narrow valley with forest of pines and rhododendron trees, then reaching nice pasture fields with huts and sheds of Yak herders and in the gorge formed by Pisang Peak and Kang-guru Himal lower basin, walk continues following Nar-Phu River upstream to reach at Dharmashala for overnight stop.

Day 07:            Trek to Kyang 4,100 m – 6 hrs.
Morning walk leads towards far north towards Phu village isolated area of dry, arid landscapes, on the lookout for some wildlife’s Blue Sheep’s, Snow Leopard, Musk deer’s and mountain goats.

Walk continues to Kyang for overnight stop after an interesting day, Kyang with dozen houses of Tibetan culture.

Day 08:            Trek to Phu village 4,080 m – 06 hours.
Today destination to Phu village morning walk towards Phu River following upstream for some time and then descending back to river again, then climb to reach a gorge valley, walking around gorge for some time and up into a wide glacial valley with pasture lands ending at Phu village of strong Tibetan influence culture, traditions and religion.

 

Day 09:            Rest at Phu village, visit and hike around Phu village and valley
A necessary rest day at Phu for acclimatization, explore this impressive village visit Tashilkhang and Samdu Choling Monastery and Kyauchyu waterfalls, Phu Village with about 30 houses for 100 to 150 inhabitants.

Day 10:            Trek to Nar Phedi 3,545 m – 06 hrs.
From Phu village walk leads back on the same trail for few hours descending to a narrow gorge at Phu khola, from here a slow climb to reach at Yughat small village with mani, chortens and Buddhist shrines, then finally reaching on a flat field at Nar Phedi for overnight stop.

 

Day 11:            Trek to Nar-Gaon 4,206 m – 06 hrs.
Morning walk leads back to Phu Khola for few hours to reach a suspension bridge over Phu Khola, crossing the bridge with steep climb for few hours reaching a flat area then walk to Nar village for overnight.

Nargaon in comparison with Phu looks similar but smaller due to its remoteness with high altitude and dry land.

 

Day 12:            Trek to Kang-La Base Camp 4,530 m – 05 hrs.
After Nar-Gaon walk heads to remote wilderness, away from human settlement for few days, an interesting walk for few hours then with short ups and downs in some rocky and arid path, passing cattle herders shelters and grazing field heading further west following Temdenzon khola (stream) around this wild areas with views of peaks and finally reaching at Kang la pass Phedi or a base for overnight stop with camping at 4,530 meters altitude.

 

Day 13:            Cross Kangla Pass 5,322m and trek to Ngawal 3,650 m – 07 hrs.
Starting early morning to cross Kang-la at an altitude of 5,322 meters, walk climbs higher on a steep slope for few hours with stunning views of Pisang Peak with Chulu Far East Peak, and then reaching the top of the pass with wonderful views of Annapurna massif mountain range, Chulu Peaks, Lamjung Himal and adjoining peaks of Annapurna range, and then walk downhill to Ngawal via Julu village close to Manang village to reach at main route on Annapurna circuit trail.

 

Day 14:            Trek to Manang 3,540 m – 05 hrs.

Morning walk leads you towards Manang main village, after an overnight at Ngawal where our route this morning joins Annapurna Circuit trail after being away for main flow of trekkers for some days.

On route main Manang village with short stop at Braga villages visit its old interesting monastery with fabulous views of mountains.

Day 15:            Trek to Yak Kharka 4,210m – 04 hrs.
After a nice stop in Manang village, walk leads to Ghunsang village and then at Yak Kharka,
an interesting morning walk with grand views of snowcapped mountains, on crossing a small stream reaching at Yak Kharka, a small and remote settlement of Manang villagers where in early days used to be a Yak grazing land.

 

Yak Kharka houses 4-5 good lodges to stay with super views of Mt. Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Tilicho and Chulu’s Peaks.

 

Day 16:            Trek to Thorang- La High Camp or Phedi 4,450m – 06 hrs.
From Yak Kharka walk to Ledar and then continue towards base of Thorang-la pass, on crossing a bridge with a climb along Jarjung River, final day walk leads at Thorang Phedi with 3-4 lodges and then with short rest an hour steep climb reaches you at Thorang High Camp for overnight stop.

 

Day 17:            Cross Thorang La 5,416m | 17,769 ft and trek to Muktinath 3,800 m- 06 hrs.
Today, highlight of the adventure crossing over Thorang-La, after an early breakfast walk leads to a long climb to reach on top Thorang-la on winding steep path.

Thorang-La Pass above 5,416 m and 17,700 ft the top festooned with thousands of Buddhist colorful prayer flags, with a sign board of Thorang-La and its specific heights.

 

From here facing grand view of snowcapped peaks, a long descends takes you at holy Muktinath around Lower Mustang area.

 

On reaching Muktinath for overnight stop, one of the holiest of all holy spot for Hindu religion and as well for some Buddhist, the word Muktinath literally means ‘place for Nirvana or Liberation’.

 

Day 18:            Drive to Jomsom 2,715 n – 02 hrs.
From Muktinath, rest of the journey is easier (due to motorable road with few trekking path) taking a jeep drive to shorten the adventure, an exciting ride with big drop of 1,200 m as the trail descend to Kaligandaki river valley to reach at Jomsom for last overnight within high valley of Western Nepal Himalaya.

 

Jomsom headquarter town of Mustang region with a small airstrip above Kaligandaki River, an interesting country around Kaligandaki River valley within dry and arid country with incredible views of windblown hills and canyons.

 

Day 19:            Fly to Pokhara 860 m and transfer to hotel near Phewa Lake.
Morning a short walk to Jomsom airport for scenic short flight to reach at beautiful Pokhara, during air fantastic views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayan peaks, as the aircraft lands at Pokhara.

 

Pokhara one of the most sought touristic destinations in all Himalaya, a picturesque city overlooking views of massive Annapurna Himalaya with famous and magnificent Machhapuchare Himal ‘Fish Tail’.

 

From the airport a short drive to reach hotels by serene Phewa Lake side, with time to explore beautiful Pokhara.

 

Day 20:            Drive or fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.
Morning catching last views of Annapurna Himalaya with majestic Machhapuchare Himal or Fish Tail, and then an exciting overland journey to reach back into the hustle bustle city life of Kathmandu after a great experience and overwhelming time on Nar-Phu & Kang-la Pass Trekking.

Day 21:            In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour.
A day reserved as spare and free day for you to enjoy individual activities and shopping, with opportunity for sightseeing tour for few hours, after an interesting sightseeing back to hotel with afternoon free at leisure.

Day 22:            International departure for home ward bound.
After a great and grand experience around high hill and mountains on Annapurna Himalaya with fantastic adventure on Nar-Phu & Kang-La Pass trekking, depart from the hotel to the airport for final departure homeward bound or to respective destinations.
