Introduction:

Pekay & Dudh Kund Trekking, a short adventure of less than two week frame leads you to Mid East Himalaya close to Everest, Gaurishanker Mountains within Numbur peaks and Dudh Kund holy Pond with hike up to scenic hill top at Pekay, the highest point of the trek at 4,065 m / 13,414 ft high.

Beside marvelous views chain of mountains with Mt. Everest range of peaks, walk leads you to enjoy fascinating cultural around Sherpa villages at Solu areas which is directly south towards of Mt. Everest and Khumbu region.

Pekay & Dudh Kund Trekking, one of the few adventures around hidden pockets of Himalaya, leading you into remote and isolated country in complete tranquilly within the harmony of mountain panorama and local Sherpa culture of great interest.

Starting with an overland journey heading east of Kathmandu to reach at Jiri town the old gateway town of early classic and original route to Everest Base Camp, at present few trekkers use this trail.

Our journey continues to reach starting point of our trek at Bhandar, and then heading towards high hill and pass of Lamjura covered within deep alpine forest and hike to Pekay Hill top for panorama of Mt. Everest and array of peaks.

From Pekay walk leads beyond Junbesi village and then away from main trails and villages into complete isolation to reach on the foot of Numbur Himal at holy Dudh-Kund glacial Pond, where locals visits for a dip in the icy pond on auspicious full moon events of July and August months.

Here enjoy the ambiance surrounding with matchless scenery of high landscapes and snow capped peaks and then walk towards Takshindo Hill top to reach at Phaplu town for short and scenic flight back to Kathmandu, after a marvelous adventure on Pekay & Dudh Kund Trekking.

Brief Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Pekay & Dudh Kund Trekking.
Day 03: Drive to Bhander 2,190m via Shivalaya 1,640m and Jiri 1,955m – 07 hrs journeys.
Day 04: Trek to Sete 2,430m – 06 hrs.
Day 05: Trek to Lamjura 3,530 m -03 hrs afternoon free for short walk.
Day 06: Trek to Peekay ridge top 4,065m and return to Lamjura.
Day 07: Trek to Junbesi 2,670m – 05 hrs.
Day 08: Trek to Thupten Chuling 2,930m – 04 hours.
Day 09: Trek to Saharsabeni 3,340m -06 hours.
Day 10: Trek to Dudh Kunda 4,190 m – 06 hours.
Day 11: Rest day for local hike.
Day 12: Trek to Sarkari pati 2,860 m -06 hours.
Day 13: Trek to Phaplu 2,470 m -06 hours.
Day 14: Fly to Kathmandu from Phaplu 30 minutes of scenic flight.
Day 15: International departure homeward bound.

Day 01:            Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotels.
On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, where you will be received with warm welcome and then transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city, after checking in getting refreshed rendezvous with other climbing members and staff.

Here our guide or group leader will brief you with information regarding Pekay & Dudh Kund Trekking, with welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese Restaurants includes Folk program of various parts of Nepal.

Day 02:            In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Pekay and Dudh Kund Trek.

In Kathmandu for full preparations and packing as well to purchase necessary equipments,
on this free day take an optional sightseeing tour at places of interest around Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur cities, where you will be within culture and historical sites most of the monuments listed as World Heritage Sites.

Day 03:            Drive to Bhander 2,190m via Shivalaya 1,640m and Jiri 1,955m – 07 hrs.
Pekay & Dudh Kund trek begins with interesting and exciting overland drive on Kathmandu-Lhasa highway, where this interesting drive leads you on Himalayan foothills through villages and towns on reaching at Charikot and then to Jiri town.

After a refreshing stop in Jiri, drive continues on high ridge with scenery of surrounding landscapes and mountains.

From the ridge top a long downhill to Shivalaya village and then a climb to a ridge past farm villages and terrace fields reaching alpine forested area of rhododendron-oaks-pines trees to reach a small pass of Deurali at 2, 715 meters. After Deuarli with an hour descend to Bhandar village for overnight stop.

Bhandar a nice village also called Chyangma, the area around with mix tribe of people with Tamang, Newar, but predominantly Sherpa people.

Day 04:            Trek to Sete 2,575 m – 06 hrs.
Morning starts with downhill through farm areas passing farm villages to reach at Kenja village a nice moderate size village, situated in a warm valley just beneath the high hills of Lamjura and Pikey danda, offering views of Numbur peaks. After Kenja, a steep uphill climb all the way to overnight stop at Sete village from here onwards the temperature gets cooler.

Day 05:            Trek to Lamjura 3,530 m -03 hrs with afternoon free for short walk.
Starting with cool morning walk towards Lamjura-la pass with steep climb into forest of rhododendron, pines and oaks trees then through many small farm lands and hamlets, after few hours of climb reaching on top of Lamjura pass marked by a big stupa with few lodges close to Peekay hill, afternoon rest and admire the beautiful surrounding.

Day 06:            Trek to Peekay ridge top 4,065m and return to Lamjura – 06 hrs round trip.
Starting early with pack lunch heading into a dense forested area of rhododendron-pines-firs-oaks and birch tree lines with some down and more uphill climb reaching at Peekay ridge top with super views of Jugal Himal range of peaks including Gaurishanker-Melung Tse-Numbur with Mt. Everest includes adjoining peaks of Khumbu and Everest range.

After a delightful moment with superb views walk back to Lamjura for overnight stop and good rest after a pleasant and long walks of the day.

Day 07:           Trek to Junbesi 2,675 m via Lamjura-la 3,530 m -06 hrs.
Morning a short walk leads to the top of Lamjura pass at 3,530 m high and then downhill through dense cool coniferous forest reaching a Sherpa village at Toctoc, with short break continue walk on gradual winding path with grand views of surrounding landscapes and then with short downhill to reach at lovely Sherpa large village in Junbesi.

An impressive village with an interesting monastery and a high school funded by Hillary Trust and Foundation, here with enough time to browse around Junbesi village.

Day 08:            Trek to Thupten Chuling 2,930m – 04 hours.
From this lovely Junbesi village, today a short walk of 3-4 hours to reach a Buddhist nunnery and monastery at Thupten Chuling monastery area, from Junbesi walking on nice maintain trail leading away from the main Jiri to Everest trail, while our route leads on least traveled region where trekkers often visit, as the walk progress enjoy the surrounding views of landscapes with distant Numbur peaks, slowly our walk enter a monastery premises at Thupten Chuling.

Afternoon relax and visit the monastery and the nunnery of great interest and importance to Buddhism followers.

Day 09:            Trek to Saharsabeni 3,835m -06 hours.
After a pleasant relaxing time at Thupten Chuling Gompa, today will be a long and tough day walk of the journey as the walk leads into complete wilderness away from villages and human settlement with few cattle herder’s huts and shades.

Walk leads past Kumgangdo a small Buddhist school with a meditation cave heading further at Shengeephuk of 3,940 m high and continue on the upper ridges with incredible views of snowcapped peaks and then reaching our campsite at Saharsabeni past Sejung.

Day 10:            Trek to Holy Dudh Kunda 4,561 m – 06 hours.
Today walk leads to our goal and highlight of the adventure at holy Dudh kunda a glacial pond where pilgrims and devotees of both faith Hindu and Buddhist visit the glacial pond, once a year in auspicious event where religious fair takes place to take a holy dip in the sacred pond, belief is that it washes the sin of a thousand life times.

Walk leads on arid and barren country with ups and few downhill trails and then climbing the last hour to reach our highest point of the trek at 4,561 m high within simmering emerald color Dudh kunda pond.

Afternoon relax and enjoy the surrounding awesome views of mountains and beautiful landscapes.

Day 11:            Rest day for local exploration and hike.
Great fair of religious event takes place here in the month of July or August as per Hindu and Buddhist Lunar calendar, festival takes place in full moon day, where hundreds of pilgrims from Solu and Khumbu district and as other part of Nepal visit the holy sites.

At Dudh Kunda relax or take a side excursion on nearby hills for better views of surrounding peaks, where you can catch glimpse of Everest and massive face of Numbur peak as well.

Dudh Kunda, a pond fed from the glaciers of Numbur peaks which towers above the camp sites.

Day 12:            Trek to Sarkari pati 2,860 m -06 hours.
Morning walk leads back on the same trail for few hours and then heading downhill on a ridge crest following the trail towards Sarkari pati with views along the walks and eventually reaching our overnight camp at Sarkari pati on a nice grazing field.

Day 13:            Trek to Phaplu 2,470 m via Takshindo and Ringmo -06 hours.
Today our last day of trekking heading back to human civilization into villages and farm areas of Solu area, walk is pleasant on gradual winding trail with more downhill entering back into tree lines of rhododendron-pines and fir trees reaching at the main trail of Jiri to Everest route at Takshindo hill top.

After a short refreshing rest, walk continues on downhill path past Ringmo village to reach at Phaplu where we will take flight back to Kathmandu next early morning, at Phaplu overnight in nice cozy Sherpa lodge with time for short walk around the village.

Day 14:            Fly to Kathmandu from Phaplu 30 minutes of scenic flight.
Getting up early to catch the early flight back to Kathmandu from Phaplu (sometime the flight time can get delayed due to bad weather), as the plane reaches Phaplu small airstrip depart for Kathmandu taking a sweeping scenic flight in a small twin otter or Dornier plane.
On arrival in Katmandu domestic airport a short drive leads you back in the hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu, transfer back to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu in and around Thamel area.

Day 15:            International departure for home ward bound.
After a great and grand experience around high hill and mountains with mesmerizing moment within cultural Sherpa villages and adventure on Pekay & Dudh Kund Trek, depart from the hotel to the airport for final departure homeward bound or to respective destinations.
