Introduction:

A fascinating trek and climb within heart of massive Annapurna Himalaya range, where exciting adventure leads you on top Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Climb, a peak with both local and foreign names.

The name due to its shape of the peaks as seen from Annapurna base camp and within the sanctuary as a rocky tent shaped towards its summit top, where the word Tharpu Chuli is called by Gurung tribes the major hill people of Annapurna region.

Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli towers above 5,663 m / 18,575 ft high located due North from scenic Sanctuary and Annapurna main base camp, although a lesser and below 6,000 m in elevation but leads you to a challenging with high technical experience effort to reach its summit.

Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli listed as grade PD + which means ‘Per Difficule’ in French / Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification, a straightforward climb but with few technical sections to tackle towards its rocky and ice summit top.

Our adventure leads you from Kathmandu towards picturesque Pokhara heading towards Mid West within Annapurna Himalaya region.

From scenic Pokhara an enchanting and most popular tourist destination in all Himalaya due to it closeness to mountains surrounded with green hills where the snow capped Annapurna Himalaya reflects on its calm and serene Phewa and Begnas Lakes.

After a short drive from Pokhara, and then our actual trek begins following the Modi River right up to its source at Annapurna Sanctuary fed from the glaciers of many peaks of Annapurna Himalaya.

 

Walking follows through nice and lovely Gurung farm villages of interesting culture exploring traditional life of the local mountain villages and then entering into green forested areas within Modi River gorge and soon reaching to a wide open plateau at Annapurna Sanctuary.

 

Annapurna Sanctuary enclosed within series of snow capped peaks with excellent views of Annapurna I (8,091m / 26,545ft) Annapurna South (7,219m-23,693ft), Tharpu Chuli / Tent Peak (5,663 m), Gangapurna (7,455m-24,457ft) and Annapurna III (7,555m-24,787ft) to Mt. Machhapuchare (Fish-tail) and more.

 

At Annapurna base camp with rest and acclimatization days with super views and then heading beyond for Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli climb past its moraine and glaciers reaching at Tent peak base camp.

 

At Tent Peak base camp with time for practice climb and preparation then heading to our grand ascent using Advance or High Camp to make the climb more accessible and easier then reach the summit of Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli.

 

With vigorous haul to the top offers you with incredible views of amazing landscapes and peaks that surrounds you, after a great climb descend safely back to base camp and onwards towards sanctuary heading towards the road head to reach at scenic Pokhara.

 

At Pokhara our awesome adventure of a lifetime experience concludes after being on top of Tent Peak/ Tharpu Chuli Climb and then back at hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu.

 

Brief Itinerary:

Day 01:            Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02:            In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Tent Peak Climb.
Day 03:            Drive to Pokhara 860 m – 06 hrs.
Day 04:            Drive to Nayapul (trek point) and trek to Ghandruk 1,940m -04 hrs.
Day 05:            Trek to Chomrong village at 2,170m – 06 hrs.
Day 06:            Trek to Dovan 2,600 m via Bamboo 2,310 – 06 hrs.
Day 07:            Trek to Machhapuchare Base Camp 3,700 via Deurali 3,200 m – 05 hrs.
Day 08:            Trek to Annapurna Base Camp 4,130 m – 03 hrs with free afternoon.
Day 09:            At Annapurna Base Camp for acclimatization and preparation for the climb.
Day 10:            Trek to Tent peak base camp 4,450 m / 14,600 ft – 05 hrs.
Day 11:            Trek to high camp 4,800 m – 04 hrs.
Day 12:            Climb Tent Peak 5,663 m high and return to base camp – 08 hrs.
Day 13:            Spare and contingency day in case of unfavorable weather condition on climb.
Day 14:            Trek back to Annapurna Base Camp – 05 hrs.

Day 16:            Trek to Jhinu Danda (hot-spring) 1,780 m – 05 hrs.
Day 17:            Trek to Bhirethati and drive to Pokhara – 07 hrs.
Day 18:            Drive or fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.
Day 19:            In Kathmandu free day with individual activities.
Day 20:            International departure for home ward bound.

Following items can be bought or hired in Kathmandu.

Day 01:            Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotels.
On arrival at Kathmandu international airport, where you will be received with warm welcome and then transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city, after checking in getting refreshed rendezvous with other climbing members and staff.

Here our guide or group leader will brief you with information regarding trekking and Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Climb, with welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese Restaurants includes Folk program of various parts of Nepal.

Day 02:            In Kathmandu optional tour and preparation for Tent Peak Climb.

We have allowed and reserved a day in Kathmandu for full preparations and packing as well to purchase necessary equipments, collect permits from concern Government department for the trek and climb.

On this day where one can take an optional sightseeing tour at places of interest around Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur cities, where you will be soaked within culture and historical sites most of the monuments listed as World Heritage Sites.

Day 03:            Drive to Pokhara 950m – 06 hrs journey distance 220 k.m.
Morning overland journey on the main busy highway of Nepal heading towards Mid West zone at Pokhara, drive leads through Himalayan foothills within warmer areas past many farm villages and town.

Finally this exciting drive reaching at Pokhara, then transfer to respective hotels by the beautiful and serene Phewa Lake with afternoon free for short walks.
(Options by Air 30 minutes scenic flight to Pokhara).

Day 04:            Drive to Nayapul (trekking point) and trek to Ghandruk 1,940 m – 04 hrs.
Starting our adventure to Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Climb taking few hours drives to Nayapul and at Bhirethati villages, situated above Modi River.

Our first day walk starts past several farm villages with views of waterfalls then with gradual climb for few hours to reach at Ghandruk for overnight stop in the comfort of nice lodge, after a an interesting wonderful walks of four hours.

Ghandruk a large Gurung village and the gateway to many trekking and other adventure around Annapurna Himalaya, Gurung people are mainly framers and cattle herders with 200 years of history in supplying best Gorkha soldiers to foreign legion in UK – India and Singapore.

Afternoon as time permits visit Gurung museum with wide information of Gurung culture and heritage of Buddhist religion offers views of Annapurna Himalaya.

Day 05:            Trek to Chomrong village at 2,170m – 06 hrs.
After a pleasant morning with views of Annapurna South-Huinchuli and Fish Tail peaks our second day walk leads above Ghandruk village and then with steep climb to Kimrong danda (ridge), here with short stop then on downhill trail into cool alpine forest to reach at lovely Kimrong valley. With lunch break afternoon uphill climb towards Chomrong village through terraced farm areas, an hour uphill reaching then on gentle stone paved path.

Reaching one of the largest Gurung villages in Chomrong, which is the last village before Annapurna base camp and the sanctuary, beyond Chomrong are just temporary settlement to cater the need of trekkers with lodge and guest houses.

Day 06:            Trek to Dovan 2,600 m via Bamboo 2,310 – 06 hrs.
Morning walk downhill to cross a short bridge heading up to reach at Sinuwa at 2,360 m high, a lonely spot with few shops and nice lodges walk from here leads into cool forested area of oaks-rhododendron and pines trees and then a short steep descend to Bamboo a small settlement with 5-6 lodges surrounded by bamboo trees, on Modi River gorge.

After Bamboo an hour or more of slow climb brings at Dovan for overnight stop located within Modi River Gorge with couple of lodge for overnight stay.

Day 07:            Trek to Machhapuchare Base Camp 3,700 via Deurali 3,200 m – 05 hrs.
After a nice overnight stop at Dovan with the sound of raging Modi River, morning walk leads higher through thick forested area reaching at Himalaya Hotel located beneath Huinchuli peak and large overhanging Hinko Cave. From downhill by the Modi River crossing ablation of old avalanches of rocky moraine, then a short climb brings at Deurali after leaving the gorge area to more wide open area. From Deurali after lunch stop heading higher leaving the tree lines behind following the raging glacial Modi River all the way to Machhapuchare base camp at 3,700 m high for overnight stop, located beneath towering North Face of the Fish Tail Mountain.

Day 08:            Trek to Annapurna Base Camp 4,130 m – 03 hrs with free afternoon.
Walk this morning leads into famous scenic Annapurna Sanctuary where Annapurna Base Camp located.  From Machhapuchare Base Camp starting point of the sanctuary, walk leads towards higher ground for few hours to enter into a magical sanctuary within amphitheatre of peaks that surrounds this amazing place.

After few hours of pleasant walk brings you to the highest spot of this adventure at Annapurna base camp with 4,130 meters elevation.

The one and only base camp around Himalaya with facilities of nice and cozy lodge and inns to stay with scenic panorama of whole Annapurna range of peaks.

Afternoon enjoy with views of  Annapurna I (8,091m / 26,545ft) Annapurna South (7,219m-23,693ft), Gangapurna (7,455m-24,457ft) and Annapurna III (7,555m-24,787ft), including to Mt. Machhapuchare (Fish-tail) at 6,790 m stretches up towards Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli and Fluted Peaks or Singu Chuli.

Day 09:            At Annapurna base camp rest and acclimatization.
A full rest day for acclimatization and short hike with views snow-peaks including Annapurna I, a large wall of a mountain. Here with time for preparation for next day trek and climb to Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Base Camp.

Day 10:            Trek to Tent peak Base Camp 4,450 m / 14,600 ft – 05 hrs.
From Annapurna Base Camp, our route heads across snow-covered moraine rocky path and towards icy trail for an hour reaching at Annapurna south glacier.

Walk with short climb offers excellent views of Tent peak with other high mountains, after few hours of good trek reaching a flat ground to set our base camp with first night camping, afternoon free for climbing preparation.

 

Day 11:            Trek to High Camp 5,200 m / 17,056 ft – 04 hrs.

Adding an extra camp makes the climb much better and accessible to reach the summit top, from base camp heading further with steep climb over rock and glacier with lot of boulders, climb continues reaching high camp at 5,200 meters high, afternoon free preparation for next morning summit bid.

 

Day 12:            Climb Tent Peak summit and return to Base Camp – 06 hrs.

Our goal and high lights on this Big Day! Starting early morning climbing over steep snow slope with some technical section to reach on top of the summit; where our expert guide will fix ropes on necessary section of the climb to make it safe to reach the summit, after a tough and hard climb reaching at the top feeling in high spirit with amazing views that surrounds the summit.  After a great time on top with awesome scenery descend back safely to base camp.

 

Day 13:            Spare and contingency day in case of unfavorable weather condition on climb.

Reserved as extra day or contingency in case of delay on climb due to bad unfavorable weather condition, if all goes well as per the itinerary days use this day on the walk to Pokhara.

 

Day 14:            Trek back to Annapurna Base Camp – 05 hrs.

From Tent Peak base camp after breakfast and cleaning up the base camp walk leads back at Annapurna Base Camp on icy trail, a normal moderate walk of about five hours to overnight stop at Annapurna base camp in the comfort of nice lodge.

 

Day 15:            Trek back to Bamboo 2,310 m – 06 hrs.
After a most memorable and adventurous time on tough and successful climb on
Tent Peak within sanctuary retrace the journey back walking downhill back into tree lines with few short ups to reach at Bamboo for overnight stop.

Day 16:            Trek to Jhinu Danda (hot-spring) 1,780 m – 05 hrs.
From Bamboo on leaving Modi River gorge climb leads up to Khuldi-Ghar into forested area, and then a short gradual walk to Sinuwa danda, from here descend to Chomrong River, and then climb on steps to Chomrong for lunch stop.

After Chomrong a short climb to the top ridge and then changing our direction from here with an alternative route to reach Pokhara, a short downhill walk brings at scenic and lovely Jhinu village for overnight stop, located on a ridge top with views of surrounding landscapes and rolling green hills. A short descend of 25 minutes reaches you at hot-spring by the Modi River.

Day 17:            Trek to Bhirethati and drive to Pokhara – 07 hrs.
After a refreshing and pleasant time at Jhinu village morning with last day walks of the marvelous adventure on Tent Peak/ Tharpu Chuli Climb, an easy descend to follow the raging Modi River towards warmer areas past smaller farm villages.

Walk continue reaching at the bottom of Ghandruk and Landruk village, where the trail leads you back into farm areas with more villages reaching at Bhirethati or in Nayapul for few hour drive back to scenic Pokhara for last overnight stop in Mid West Nepal Himalaya.

Day 18:            Drive or fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.
Morning catching last views of Annapurna Himalaya with majestic Machhapuchare Himal or Fish Tail, and then an exciting overland journey to reach back into the hustle bustle city life of Kathmandu after a great experience and overwhelming time on great Annapurna Himalaya region.

Day 19:            In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour.
A day reserved as spare and free day in case of delay on climb due to bad weather conditions, with opportunity for sightseeing tour for few hours, after an interesting sightseeing back to hotel with afternoon free at leisure for individual activities.

Day 20:            International departure for home ward bound.
After a great and grand experience around high hill and mountains of Annapurna with successful climb on top Tent Peak or Tharpu Chuli toughest peaks, depart from the hotel to the airport for final departure homeward bound or to respective destinations.
