Mera Peak – Nepal’s Highest Trekking Peak Climbing

  • Duration: 18 Days
  • Max altitude: 6,476 m / 21,247 ft
  • Group size: 2+
  • Grade: Hard
  • Best season: March–May and October–November

Accommodation: Tea House / Camping

Mera Peak (6,476 m) is one of Nepal’s most rewarding trekking peaks, offering an excellent introduction to high-altitude mountaineering for trekkers with good fitness and a willingness to learn basic climbing skills. Located in the remote Hinku Valley of the Khumbu region, the mountain provides a quieter and more adventurous alternative to the busier Everest Base Camp trails.

The journey to Mera Peak passes through beautiful rhododendron and pine forests, traditional Sherpa settlements, alpine meadows, and dramatic glacial landscapes. As the trail climbs higher, the scenery changes into rugged mountain terrain, eventually leading to Khare, the main acclimatization and climbing preparation point.

After essential glacier travel and climbing training, climbers move toward Mera High Camp before attempting the summit, weather and conditions permitting. From the summit, the Himalayan panorama can include Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu and, in favorable visibility, Kanchenjunga.

With proper acclimatization, experienced mountain support, and suitable weather, Mera Peak is an unforgettable Himalayan adventure combining remote trekking, mountaineering skills, and spectacular mountain views.

Planning your Himalayan adventure? Sherpa Climbing Treks and Expedition Pvt. Ltd. can assist with general travel information and pre-departure guidance to help make your arrival in Nepal as smooth as possible.

Travel Insurance

Adequate travel insurance is mandatory for all participants joining trekking, peak climbing and mountaineering expeditions organized by Sherpa Climbing Treks and Expedition Pvt. Ltd.

Travel insurance is not included in the trip package price. Each participant is responsible for arranging appropriate insurance coverage before travelling to Nepal.

We strongly recommend that your insurance policy includes the following coverage:

  • Emergency medical expenses and hospitalization abroad
  • Emergency helicopter evacuation and mountain rescue
  • Accidents and injuries during trekking or mountaineering activities
  • High-altitude medical emergencies
  • Trip cancellation and interruption
  • Loss, theft or delay of baggage

Helicopter evacuation in the Himalayas can be extremely expensive, particularly in remote mountain regions where road access and medical facilities are limited. Appropriate insurance coverage is therefore essential for protecting yourself against unexpected medical and emergency expenses during your journey.

Altitude Coverage

The required insurance coverage depends on the altitude and nature of your selected trip.

  • Trekking: For most trekking routes in Nepal, we recommend coverage for trekking activities up to at least 4,000–6,000 metres, including emergency helicopter evacuation.
  • Peak Climbing and Mountaineering: For climbing and mountaineering expeditions above 6,000 metres, insurance must specifically cover high-altitude mountaineering, climbing-related accidents and emergency rescue operations.

Participants must carefully review their insurance policy to ensure that it covers the maximum altitude, activities and specific requirements of their chosen trek or expedition.

Important Information

All participants must carry a copy of their travel insurance policy and emergency assistance contact details throughout the trek or expedition.

Please ensure that your insurance provider offers emergency assistance and evacuation coverage in Nepal, including remote Himalayan regions.

Sherpa Climbing reserves the right to request proof of valid and appropriate travel insurance before the commencement of any trip.

Having adequate insurance coverage is an essential part of responsible mountain travel and provides additional protection and peace of mind for both participants and the mountain team supporting your adventure.
